Carpet Prices To Change After OFT Probe

Today the BBC are reporting that 2 national flooring retailers are changing their pricing policies following the OFT probe.

Floors2Go, that that specialises in laminate flooring, are changing their website so that their advertised price includes VAT - currently VAT is added to the basket after the product is selected.  This has obviously been regarded as "sharp" practice as the site is aimed at high street domestic customers rather than the trade or business.

The other company is United Carpets, according to the report they have been told that they must use genuine Recommended Retail Prices.  It seems their response to this direction is that they are going to stop using RRP's.

Here at Burts we do not believe the customer should get a nasty shock at checkout and have always had the policy of including VAT with our advertised prices.  We are also upfront when it comes to delivery cost.  All our products are delivered at a low cost to most UK postcodes.  There are a few exceptions for some Highlands and Islands and we are very open about this across the site.

It will be interesting to see what the other big names do in repsonse to the probe, particularly CarpetRight as they are the nations largest flooring retailer.
