Interfloor, who are the leading UK producer of carpet underlay and accessories, have deveoped an innovative idea to re-cycle some of their waste.

Carpet gripper rods, sometimes known as smoothedge fixings, are used to secure fully fitted carpets at the perimeter of a room.  They are made from plywood with protruding spikes to grip the carept and have nails to secure them to the sub floor.

The manufacturing process of this product produces tonnes of sawdust each year and Interfloor had previously paid to have this removed by a third party to be processed into a bio fuel.

The company's engineers looked for a method of waste disposal that would reduce costs but would also be inline with Interfloor’s environmental policy. The solution they came up was to compress the sawdust into small briquettes to be used in wood burning stoves or open fires.

We think this is a great idea not only to keep costs down so we can continue bring fantastic prices on carpet underlay but also be kind to the environment.
